Dæmian Community

Okay obviously if you chose this page first you don't know what a "Dæmon" is.  Dæmon are not those things you see on Charmed that throw fireballs and go poof when they die, no Dæmons are traditionally known as your soul. Nowadays (some) people like to think of their Dæmon as their "reason" or "conscience".

You might have heard of Dæmons from Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" series; I am proud to tell you that these Dæmons are very similar in context, they both settle as a form that represents the humans personality, they both take animal form and they both are your constant companion through life.

Ok you might be getting sick of my "His Dark Materials" rambling so I will start telling you about how to speak to them.

How to speak to your Dæmon

Speaking to your Dæmon is as easy as talking to yourself…in fact when you talk to yourself you are talking to your Dæmon. It is actually quite easy to hear your Dæmons voice, just listen for that little voice that replies to your thoughtspeak hello’s. the first question you should probably ask your Dæmon is “will you speak in words” if you get a feeling or a picture, the Dæmon isn’t ready to speak to you in words just yet. Some people I find on Okibi’s The Dæmon Forum that their Dæmon speaks in a different voice to theirs.

Dæmons Gender

Dæmons like humans and animals have genders, though their gender is often the opposite to their human e.g. if the human was female the Dæmon would be male. The reason for this is because it is just like the Chinese concept of yin and yang, each of us has a bit of the opposite gender in us.

Some people  (though this is not as common)  may have Dæmons that are the same gender as them. Reasons for this is that you may be homosexual or there may be no reason at all.

Dæmons Forms

Dæmons are best visualised in animal form, the easiest example to explain is that it is for symbolism. Just say your Dæmon is a Peregrine Falcon that means that you are Solitary, A bit egotistical, sleek & brave.  The reason Dæmon are best visualised in this way is because humans have no symbolism, if your Dæmon was a human it would make no sense or symbolise the true you in any way.

Dæmons and settling

When you are young your Dæmon is able to change forms into whichever animal suits your personality at the time. My Dæmon Nimolu hasn’t settled yet but sometimes he likes changing forms. One minute he likes being a snow leopard then the next a robin. But in between the ages of 13 and 17 (or younger or older) your Dæmon starts changing less and less until you feel that he/she is settled. Sometimes the human knows they are settled but they don’t know what as but in this case the human simply finds a alternative form which is known to them.

Dæmons Personality

Yes there is even a section on Dæmons personality. As you have probably guessed by my little yin/yang statement is that your Dæmons personality is in most cases different to their humans. E.g. I am polite and caring; whereas my Dæmon is rude and sarcastic.

Dæmons Names

Ok a question that comes up in The Dæmon Forum a lot is “what is my Dæmons name and how do I find out” well for me all I did was ask my Dæmon what his name was…he replied Nimolu. But some people actually have to wait to find out or they just make it up. Most Dæmons don’t have normal names like Ashleigh, Bianca or Jack; they have special and unusual names. Some examples from The Dæmon Forum are: Dixalio, Rojo, Pyrr and Pennevar.
